and Services: Assistive Technology The Assistive Technology Program consist of a multi-disciplinary team of general and special education teachers (including deaf and hard of hearing and vision), speech language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists certificated by California State University. Northridge through the Assistive Technology Applications Certificate Program (ATACP) and ;'or the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) WHAT IS ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY? Assistive Technology is defined in the federal law for students with disabilities called the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). "Assistive Technology device" means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability. "Assistive Technology service" means any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device. Assistive Technology is provided to support the student's ability to have access to the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment possible. WHO PROVIDES ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY?
