Special Education Multicultural Advisory CommitteeIn compliance with Federal and State laws, the SEMAC was established to advise the Division of Special Education on issues related to students with disabilities who are English Language Learners and their families of diverse languages and cultures. The SEMAC meets for ongoing interaction between educators and parent participants from the local schools. The SEMAC holds a monthly informational and training meeting open to parents and staff from the Local Districts on the first Wednesday of each month. SEMAC is an organization of parents and professionals from diverse language and cultural backgrounds. The goals of the SEMAC are to:

  • Promote quality education for all students
  • Provide a resource and support network for families of special needs children
  • Provide a forum for parents to share their concerns, ask questions and work with educational professionals to find answers
  • Offer advice to the Division of Special Education on issues related to families and students and their rights

SEMAC MEMBERS

SEMAC is composed of active members who attend monthly organizational meetings.

  • A member must have a child who attends a school in LAUSD, and who is in the Special Education Program
  • An active member may serve as an officer of the Executive Board, represent SEMAC on other LAUSD committees and vote in SEMAC elections

Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
The Community Advisory Committee. mandated by the state of California. is composed of parents. professionals and community members, who act to support students with disabilities.

Special Education Multiculural Advisory Committee (SEMAC)
A parent advisory committee sponsored by the Division of Special Education for parents of students with disabilities and others. SEMAC sponsors monthly informational and training meetings related to subjects of interest to parents. All parents and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in the meetings.

Complaint Response Unit/Parent Resource Network
The Los ANgeles Los Angeles Unified School District established the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) Parent Resource Network (PRN) to join the Division of Special Education to respond to concerns of parents of students with disabilities.
